Hymn Fest 2023 was a success. Betsy Hall spent many hours organizing it and the Bridgeton Methodist Church Choir spent many hours preparing to make it a success. The Congregation sang beautifully and suggested many beautiful hymns. Betsy’s Reflections was beautiful and caused many to think of music differently and appreciate its power more.

Second Sunday Luncheon –
Second Sunday Luncheons have proven that our members go to all lengths in providing a variety of delicious foods that is enjoyed by all. But the most special part of the 2nd Sunday luncheon is the love and fellowship shared by all. The only exception is in May where it will be the 3rd Sunday in order to give the Mothers the weekend off on Mother’s Day! Random Acts of Kindness, partnering with Bridgeton Police Department, Bridgeton Methodist Church, and Bridgeton Community members. 57 children from 35 Bridgeton families received over 12,000 dollars for Christmas presents for the kids.
The Bridgton Methodist Choir performed at the Bridgeton Blueberry Festival on 17 June 2023 from 9:30 am to 10:00 am. The choir director said the choir reached further than they have ever achieved previously. In fact the prized comment she received was: “It was not the best choir I have ever heard, it the worst choir I have ever heard, but the most inspiration and spirited choir EVER heard!” Betsy Hall, the director welcomes all to join the choir – if you sing, play an instrument, or some other musical talent, please reach out to her.

A Special 2022 Christmas
This year BUMC finished the year with a servant’s heart—two major activities were accomplished—Reverse Advent Calendar and Bridgeton Christmas Activities. The Reverse Advent Calendar was a food drive headed up by Betsy Hall—people signed up to purchase a Christmas Sack of 25 food items which was then distributed to 156 families. Fairfield Harbour David Jerimiah Study Group, Century 21 Zayton-Raines, The Filling Station (Pollocksville Food Pantry), New River YMCA, and the Bridgeton Community Watch in conjunction with the Police Department all contributed. 20 of the bags were provided to Bridgeton families in need. In addition to these bags, 60 children in Bridgeton and 16 Children attending Bridgeton Elementary School were provided over 135 toys for their Christmas. In addition, an additional food sack was provided to the Bridgeton families that contained full ham, candy, fruit, and bread. This was a success. One little boy was so excited that he told Chief Barney that he wanted to be a policeman when he grew up. Of course Officer Barney went back to his office and returned with a toy police car for the child! A text was received immediately by one of the families so overjoyed and excited about this thanking the church for everything. The Christmas gifts were provided for by individual companies, individuals, and Chief Barney’s Bible Study Group contributed $5,000! Kim Alexander had requested in lieu of Birthday gifts this year that toys be purchased for just this effort. In total $12,000 was raised of which only $10,000 was used. The remaining $2,000 will be used throughout the year in case of emergencies or birthdays for children who receive nothing. Finally, if that is not enough, we contributed to the Vanceboro Food Pantry! |
